INSTRUCTIONS: 2011 KANSAS PROPERTY TAX RELIEF CLAIM FOR LOW INCOME SENIORS (Form K-40PT)

 

Kansas residents who are 65 years or older, home owners for the entire year and full-time state residents may file a form K-40PT to seek a property tax relief refund. This form cannot be filed unless you have filed a K-40H homestead claim for the year. This form can be found on the website of the Kansas Department of Revenue. This articles discusses the form for tax year 2011.

 

Kansas Property Tax Relief Claim For Low Income Seniors K-40PT Step 1: Enter your Social Security name, the first four letters of your last name in capital letters, and your telephone number at the top of the page.

 

Kansas Property Tax Relief Claim For Low Income Seniors K-40PT Step 2: Enter the name and address of the claimant. Indicate with a check mark if you are filing this form on the behalf of a deceased person's property. If so, give their date of death. Also indicate with check marks whether the name or address of the property has changed since you last filed this form and whether this is an amended claim.

 

Kansas Property Tax Relief Claim For Low Income Seniors K-40PT Step 3: On line three, enter your date of birth. On line four, enter your total wages or Kansas adjusted gross income and your federal earned income credit. On line five, enter all other taxable income not included on line four.

 

Kansas Property Tax Relief Claim For Low Income Seniors K-40PT Step 4: On line six, enter your total Social Security and SSI benefits. On line seven, enter the total of all retirement benefits and pension plans.

 

Kansas Property Tax Relief Claim For Low Income Seniors K-40PT Step 5: On line eight, enter the total of all worker's compensation, grants and other similar income.

 

Kansas Property Tax Relief Claim For Low Income Seniors K-40PT Step 6: On line nine, enter all other income for the year, including that earned by others who live with you. Total all lines on line 10.

 

Kansas Property Tax Relief Claim For Low Income Seniors K-40PT Step 7: List your property taxes paid timely on line 11 and multiply this amount by .75 to determine your property tax refund  on line 12.
