INSTRUCTIONS: IOWA INDIVIDUAL INCOME TAX FORM (Form IA 1040)
Those who owe income tax to the state of Iowa can file a form IA 1040 regardless of whether they are a full-year or part-year resident or a non-resident. This document can be obtained from the website of the government of the state of Iowa.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 1: In Step 1, give your name, address and Social Security number. If filing jointly with your spouse, include their name and Social Security number as well.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 2: Mark your filing status in Step 2.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 3: In Step 3, note all exemptions being claimed. Include the first names of all dependents being claimed.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 4: In Step 4, detail and calculate your gross income as directed. Throughout the form, note that two columns are provided. Column B on the left is for your spouse if filing jointly. Column A is for you, whether filing jointly or singly. Note that if you have more than $1,500 in either taxable interest or gross dividend income, you must complete Schedule B to fill in lines 2 and 3.

Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 6: In Step 6, calculate federal tax additions and deductions as instructed.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 7: In Step 7, calculate and document your taxable income as instructed. If you are claiming an itemized rather than standard deduction, you must complete Schedule A in order to fill in line 37.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 8: In Step 8, document tax credits and note any voluntary contributions being made.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 9: In Step 9, document all other credits being claimed.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 10: In Step 10, perform the final calculations as instructed to determine your balance due or refund owed.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 11: If you wish to make a political checkoff contribution, note this in Step 11.
Iowa Individual Income Tax Form IA 1040 Step 12: Sign and date the form in Section 12.
