INSTRUCTIONS: MISSISSIPPI RESIDENT AMENDED INDIVIDUAL INCOME TAX RETURN (Form 80-170)

 

 

Mississippi residents must file a form 80-170 if they need to amend their initial income tax return for a given year. This document is available on the website of the Mississippi Department of Revenue.

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 1: At the top left of the first page, give your name, mailing address and Social Security number. Those who file taxes jointly with their spouse must include their name and Social Security number as well.

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 2: With a check mark, indicate which of the filing statuses listed on lines 1 through 5 applies to you.

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 3: If you have dependents, give their names, indicate whether they are a child or relative as instructed, and give their Social Security numbers under line 6.

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 4: Only complete line 7 if you are claiming an exemption on the basis of you or your spouse being 65 or older or blind.

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 6: Enter your total wages, salaries and tips as documented on your forms W-2 on line 15. You must attach copies of all of W-2 forms.

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 7: Skip to the second page. Complete lines 34 through 44. Transfer the sum from line 44 to line 15.

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 8: Complete lines 45 through 54. Transfer the sum from line 54 to line 17.

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 9: Return to the first page. Subtract line 17 from the sum of lines 15 and 16. Enter the result on line 18. 

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 10: Lines 19 through 22 provide instructions for calculating your total income tax due.

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 11: Complete lines 23 through 33 as instructed to determine your adjusted tax owed.

 

Mississippi Resident Amended Individual Income Tax Return 80-170 Step 12: If you pay alimony, complete Schedule P on the second page. Sign and date the form.
