INSTRUCTIONS: SC WITHHOLDING TAX PAYMENT (Form WH-1601)
Businesses operating in South Carolina may file their withholding tax payments electronically or on a paper using a form WH-1601. The document can be obtained from the website of the South Carolina Department of Revenue. Only use black ink to complete this form. Pre-printed forms with your name can be obtained as long as you have received a withholding number. If not, you can submit a form SCTC-111, which is a business tax application. A telephone number is provided to reorder preprinted returns.
SC Withholding Tax Payment WH-1601 Step 1: Several copies of this form are provided. Separate them from each other along the dotted lines. Do not submit the instruction portion when filing this form.
SC Withholding Tax Payment WH-1601 Step 2: Enter your state withholding account number. This is a nine-digit number which begins with the numerals "25."

SC Withholding Tax Payment WH-1601 Step 4: Darken the oval in the quarter for which you are filing a return. The first quarter consists of January, February and March, the second quarter consists of April, May and June, the third quarter consists of July, August and September, and the fourth quarter consists of October, November and December. The quarter date corresponds to the date on employee paychecks.

SC Withholding Tax Payment WH-1601 Step 6: Enter the amount of the payment you are making. Do not write any dollar sign.

SC Withholding Tax Payment WH-1601 Step 8: Sign and date the form. Provide a phone number, including an area code, and email address.
SC Withholding Tax Payment WH-1601 Step 9: Make the check payment to "SCDOR." In the memo section, include the quarter and year for which you are filing and your South Carolina withholding account number.
SC Withholding Tax Payment WH-1601 Step 10: Mail the return and the check together to the address given at the bottom of the return. Do not staple the check to the form. Do not fold either this return or your check. Do not send a photocopied return rather than the original.
