INSTRUCTIONS: INDIANA APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME TO FILE (Form IT-9)
Indiana residents may submit an application seeking up to six months' extension to file their individual personal income tax return forms. This application may be submitted with or without payment. This form can be used if you are filing singly or jointly with your spouse.
Indiana Application For Extension Of Time To File IT-9 Step 1: Enter your Social Security number at the top of the page, as well as your spouse's if filing jointly.
Indiana Application For Extension Of Time To File IT-9 Step 2: Enter your full name, and current address. Give your spouse's name if you are filing jointly.
Indiana Application For Extension Of Time To File IT-9 Step 3: Part 1 is only to be completed if you are submitting a payment. Note that if you are not submitting a payment, penalty and interest fees will be assessed. If this is the case, skip to step seven.
Indiana Application For Extension Of Time To File IT-9 Step 4: To complete part 1, you should first go to the second page and complete the worksheet there to determine your tax liability balance. Enter your total estimated income on line A.
Indiana Application For Extension Of Time To File IT-9 Step 5: Follow the instructions to determine your total exemptions on line B. Subtract line B from line A on line C to determine the amount of your income subject to tax. On line D, multiply this number by .034 to determine how much of your income is liable to state income tax.
Indiana Application For Extension Of Time To File IT-9 Step 6: Perform all instructions as instructed on lines E through L and transfer the results as instructed to page one. Make your check payable to the "Indiana Department of Revenue."
Indiana Application For Extension Of Time To File IT-9 Step 7: Part 2 is for those who are not submitting payment with their application. If this is a case, place an "X" in the box next to "No Payment."
Indiana Application For Extension Of Time To File IT-9 Step 8: Mail the form, with or without payment, to the address given at the bottom of the first page by the due date for tax payments.
