INSTRUCTIONS: CONNECTICUT DECLARATION OF PERSONAL PROPERTY – SHORT FORM 

 

Connecticut business owners may be required to complete a declaration of personal property if they own real property or assets related to their business. This document can be found on the official website of the town of Canterbury or at your local tax office.

 

Connecticut Declaration Of Personal Property – Short Form Step 1: The first page of this document contains an affidavit of business closing or sale of business of property. If you filed a declaration of personal property in previous years but have since sold this property, give this information in this box. In such cases, you do not need to complete the rest of the form.

 

Connecticut Declaration Of Personal Property – Short Form Step 2: The second page requires you to provide the original cost (including transportation and installation) of all items purchased from October 2005 to October 2011. Use the percentages provided for each year to determine the depreciated value of your assets. This page concerns property including commercial fishing apparatuses, farm equipment, farm tools, mechanics tools, household improvements, furniture and equipment, rental video tapes, electronic data processing equipment and expensed supplies.

 

Connecticut Declaration Of Personal Property – Short Form Step 3: At the bottom of the second page, detail all assets you sold, disposed of or transferred. Give a description of each item, the date acquired and cost, and the date removed.

 

Connecticut Declaration Of Personal Property – Short Form Step 4: The third page is a summary sheet. Give the name and address of the business owner, a description of the business, and the location of personal property in question. Indicate the type of ownership and business with a check mark where directed.

 

Connecticut Declaration Of Personal Property – Short Form Step 5: The bottom half of the third page requests information about motor vehicles, horses and ponies, manufactured homes. You should then transfer the depreciated values from the second page where indicated. Note all exemptions that you may claim at the bottom of the page.

 

Connecticut Declaration Of Personal Property – Short Form Step 6: The last page requires you to list all property which you are leasing. 

 

Connecticut Declaration Of Personal Property – Short Form Step 7: The owner or their registered agent should print and sign their name, along with the date, in the affidavit section of the last page.
