INSTRUCTIONS: SOUTH DAKOTA STREAMLINED SALES TAX AGREEMENT CERTIFICATE OF EXEMPTION 

 

 

South Dakota purchasers of materials that are exempt from sales tax must file a certificate of exemption with the seller. This article discusses this form, which is made available as part of a complete packet containing instructions and information about sales and use tax which must be paid in the state. This packet can be found on the website of the government of South Dakota.

 

South Dakota Streamlined Sales Tax Agreement Certificate Of Exemption Step 1: Question 1 asks if you are attaching a multistate supplement form. If yes, indicate this with a check mark. If no, enter the two-letter abbreviation of the state whose laws make it possible for you to claim exemption status.

 

South Dakota Streamlined Sales Tax Agreement Certificate Of Exemption Step 2: If this certificate is being filed for a single purchase, indicate this with a check mark in response to question 2. Give the number of the invoice or purchase.

 

South Dakota Streamlined Sales Tax Agreement Certificate Of Exemption Step 3: On lines 3a  through 3f, give the name of the purchaser, their business address, tax ID number, the state and county in which the tax ID number was issued, a federal employer identification number if no tax ID number has been assigned or any other driver's license or state ID number, and a foreign diplomat number (if applicable).

South Dakota Streamlined Sales Tax Agreement Certificate Of Exemption Step 6: Question 5 asks you to circle the statement which best describes your reason for exemption. If none applies, provide a written explanation.
